Diet and Habitat
Collared lizards are found in the arid, rocky regions of the southwestern US and northern Mexico. They prefer open, sunny areas that help them spot prey and predators. Their diet primarily consists of insects, including grasshoppers and beetles, though they also eat smaller lizards and some plants. They hunt actively, using quick bursts of speed to capture prey unexpectedly.
Life Expectancy
In the wild, Collared Lizards live for 5 to 8 years. Their survival depends on their ability to navigate the challenges of their habitat, from finding food to escaping predators such as birds of prey and larger mammals.
