General Description

Pronghorn antelopes have sleek, tan to reddish-brown coats and stark white markings. Males are heavier than females, weighing 40 to 65 kg and featuring prominent backward-curving horns, which can grow up to 50 cm. At a shoulder height of 80 to 100 cm, their aerodynamic physique enables them to achieve speeds of up to 88 km/h, making them the world's second-fastest land animal.

Diet and Habitat

Pronghorn antelopes are migratory in nature. They travel long distances across seasonal habitats, where they can eat grasses, forbs, and shrubs. They prefer open terrains, where they can use their exceptional speed to escape predators.

Life Expectancy

Pronghorn antelopes in the wild usually have a lifespan of up to 10 years due to predators and environmental hardships. In captivity, their life expectancy can increase to more than 15 years, illustrating the contrast in survival rates between natural and secure settings.

Did You Know?

Pronghorn antelopes are the marathon runners of the animal kingdom! While they're not as fast as cheetahs, they can sustain their speed for much longer distances than their feline counterparts.
